Microfiber is a type of very thin synthetic fiber with which a non-woven fabric is produced called, by extension, microfibre.
It is composed mainly of polyester (about four-fifths) and polyamide. The yarn obtained is a hundred times thinner than a human hair, but only half as thick as silk.
Microfibre has a long life cycle and is resistant to washing and high temperatures. Besides it does not deform nor shrink.
Some microfibres require an interlining, a woven fabric backing to give substance to the surface. In the case of microfibres for upholstery this helps to prevent the fabric losing its shape.
